I just tested this on a page that I know isn't in the archive, and it shows nothing.   Since you are not using the body of the message returned by the Wayback Machine API, I recommend using HEAD requests instead of GET requests. Servers handle them identically, except that they don't include the body of the response. Since that is the entire archived webpage in this instance, it makes a significant difference.
