A text to speech tool with natural sounding voices.
Text to Speech (TTS) is a text-to-speech extension with natural-sounding voices by using two different TTS engines.
The 1st engine is the HTML5 native web speech API for speech synthesis. It is active in all modern browsers by default (more info: https://webaudio.github.io/web-speech-api/). The 2nd API is the Kokoro AI engine, which uses a new artificial intelligence method to synthesize text (more info: https://huggingface.co/onnx-community/Kokoro-82M-v1.0-ONNX). Please note that when you choose Kokoro AI, the app needs to download training data (~300MB) for the AI engine. So please be patient while the app is loading.
You can use this extension in a standalone interface or within web pages. If you press the toolbar button, the first interface opens up where you can enter the desired text for TTS. On the other hand, within a webpage, once you select a text, a placeholder speaker icon appears. Once you click the speaker icon, the text-to-speech starts. For the highlight feature to work correctly, please select text paragraph by paragraph. Please note that the highlight feature is still in Beta and may not work properly on all websites. There are also a few options related to the in-page text-to-speech, which can be adjusted from the extension settings page.
Note 1: For TTS in webpages, the app only uses the Web Speech API. Kokoro AI engine is only available within the standalone interface.
Note 2: Kokoro AI engine, once loaded, can work fully offline. Moreover, you can save the output TTS audio as a .wav file to your machine. When text-to-speech is completed, please press the audio icon on the right toolbar.

- When I select a sentence, Is there a way to keep the icon available to listen again. I am using it to learn a language and I like to listen multiple times, but the icon disappears when you listen once.

- Like many say it is slow and should have a speed control but it is fine for me since I can't read fast anyways but I would like to change the voice and also the highlighting text function failed soon after it began.

- This interferes with changing the text styles in Gmail in th Edge browser. When I'm typing a Gmail reply and highlight some text to change it to italic or bold or anything, the highlight becomes un-highlighted and no style change happens. Had to remove it to solve the problem.

- Constantly stops and you have to reset the app. Sometimes it'll get 1 sentence in and then stop, other times it will get 3 paragraphs in and then stop.

- not enough english voice models, there's this one specific TTS voice model an Epub Reader app called ReadEra has that's just called "en-US-language, Google, United States" and I find it sounds the least headache inducing at 1.75x speed of any TTS voice model I've ever heard, even if it doesn't sound particularly sophisticated

- you unable 2 change the speed <3 meaning if ur able 2 read faster then a first gradder this becomes instantly nell in void <3

- There is no automatic reading, and it doesnt actually read any webpage. Instead, a popup comes up that you have to manually paste all the text into for it to read. It`s a major nuisance, and completely a waste of time (as it takes 2-3x longer just to read anything in this way). Boooooooo. One commentor says 3.4 rating is underrated, I say it`s too high. I wouldn`t recommend this at all.

- I like this one very much. It is friendly, not penetrant. Ok a bit slow, the voice, yes, but for me - as a non-native-speakter - that is very good. :) Amongst that, what is available currently I like it. I feel, 3.4 is a bit underrated. I just see, 40.000 users, who knows how many are happy with it :) Maybe Dev could make a small campaign asking for rating. I would assume, at least a 4star from majoritiy as happy clients Happy people often do not rate. I like the simplicity. Ok, what I don´t like is, that while listening, I can´t scroll because the extension forces the site to stay where the highlighted text is.

- Cuts off very soon. US voices are bad, use UK instead (and live with the accent). Too many "joke voices" like "bubbles" (one would be too many but 8 out of 10 are like this... useless I mean...). Thanks for the effort but I will not be using this.

- Most of voices stops speech after 50 words. Some voices say "dot". No speech speed.

- Considering Chrome doesn't have this feature and Edge does, this is a welcome upgrade. Its not perfect but I give it 5 for filling a need.

Also there's seems to be bug you can't type anything on input a few times, I don't know why. It seems like it happens after you activate the TTS on two paragraphs of text, that the "unable to type in the input field" bug kicks in.

- This is an easy to use extension, but it won't switch to others languages on my computer. It only uses french voice.
