  • (2020-12-28) Elliot Nathan Gove: Works. Be sure to execute the Python command from the same folder that you download the Python file to. Unfortunately, you cannot use this to play age-restricted videos in VLC. It works with un-age-restricted videos, though.

  • (2020-03-21) Юрий Ш: Why aren't the browser icons displayed in the right-click menu? There are icons in the version for Firefox and it’s convenient. Can this problem be fixed? PS Google Translate from Russian.
  • (2020-01-26) CUISINED: I didn't get why it's not working for me until I changed the downloaded file name from the DEFAULT "open_with_windows.txt" to "open_with_windows.py" then I ran this command "open_with_windows.py install" and all worked. So the main take away is the downloaded file needs to be renamed, from *.txt to *.py.

  • (2019-08-08) Johnny Twobyfour: Can't get it to work :(. Installed python, ran the script, I'm doing everything I remember I did in Firefox and it was so simple. Now I just can't figure out what's wrong. The browser console throws "Unchecked runtime.lastError: Specified native messaging host not found." whenever I hit test installation. Can someone help?

  • (2018-06-28) Donagh Quish: This is great! I initially had problems getting this to work as I am not too familar with Python. You need to install python as instructed. Once this is done you need to download the python script which is also in the instructions. Next put this script in a folder. I suggest to make a new folder in Documents called Open_with. Stick the script in there. Next open a command window (click start and type cmd) Navigate to the folder you created by typing cd and the path C:\Users\username\Documents>cd C:\Users\username\documents\open_with Then run the script C:\Users\username\Documents\open_with>open_with_windows.py install This will create some extra files in the Open_with folder Now click "Test Installation" in the instructions and if successful you will see this Found version 7.1b2 at C:\Users\username\Documents\open_with\open_with_windows.py. Then click "Look for Browsers" and all the browsers you have installed will appear. Pretty cool :-)
  • (2018-05-12) yan li: good,我在firefox上就经常用它
  • (2018-02-01) Herbert Dupree: I did what the directions said. Already have Python 3.6. Opened CMD window first, ran open_with_windows.py install and nothing. Opened Python 3.6 (64-bit) command windows, ran same command open_with_windows.py install got syntax error. There needs to be an installer program since it requires a python script executable.
  • (2017-12-13) Robert Share: Thank you for bringing my favorite FF extension to Chrome. Opening a page in any browser is now possible. It is unfortunate that this requires python to function. (I fully understand why, blame Mozilla, not the developer) I am using a portable (non-install) version of python. That way I don't actually have to install python, but still get to use my favorite extension! :) Thank you Mr. Lankow for your hard work.
  • (2017-11-12) Michael Schaap: Used this on Firefox for years, never found a decent replacement for Chrone (and Vivaldi). Happy that it's now here!
