This extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. Click the translate icon whenever you want to translate the page you're visiting.
The extension also automatically detects if the language of a page you're on is different from the language you're using for your Google Chrome interface. If it is, a banner appears at the top of the page. Click the Translate button in the banner to have all the text on the page appear in the new language.

UPDATE(v1.2): Now you can change the extension options to enable automatic translation or prevent the banner automatically popped up for specified languages and web sites.

- I'm tried using the Google Translate extension with Vivaldi browser and it didn't work. When I click on it, it tells me that Google Chrome has a built-in translator and simply wanted to translate words that I typed into it. If I was using Google Chrome, I don't know why I'd download the Google Translate extension, so one would think that this extension would automatically let you translate webpages on other browsers or forks of browsers using chromium.

- With the latest update, this plugin no longer respects paragraph breaks and line spacing on webpages. This turns the translated text into a messy wall of blocks, making the reading experience incredibly frustrating. Kindly update the plugin to preserve original formatting and spacing when translating a page.

- I'm encountering more and more websites where the clickable icon and pop-up window don't appear when text is selected. Maybe it's time for an update?

- Changed my review to a 5 after learning that the functionality I wanted existed, it just wasn't in the icon but available via the chrome context menu. Right-click anywhere on the page and "Translate to <insert language here>" appears and works quite well. Silly me for assuming that the option would be found in the extensions' own menu I guess... 🙄🤷

- As a web page, Google Translate is great! As an extension which used to translate text on the same page, in a pop-up, it was great! Now the extension has been downgraded to just inserting a menu item into Chrome's right-click menu which opens up a Google Translate page (wait 5 seconds), then pastes your text onto the google translate web page. This is slower than just keeping translate.google.com open in one tab all the time, and copy-pasting manually. The in-page version was instantaneous.

- "I am deeply disappointed with this extension. It has become incredibly clunky and frustrating to use. First of all, the direct translation feature is completely broken. When I need to translate something, the popup doesn't integrate with the page at all; I am forced to manually type or paste text into the search bar and press Enter just to get a translation into my primary language. To make matters worse, Google somehow forgot to include a language swap button (reverse translation button) in the popup! While the official Google Translate app and website have this basic feature, this extension completely lacks it. If I want to translate back and forth, I have to manually re-select the languages from the dropdown menu every single time. It feels like the developers built this half-baked interface and just abandoned it. The lack of basic functionality completely defeats the purpose of having a quick-access extension. Please fix this mess.

- Why has the extension stopped working since the last Google Chrome update???? Every time I try to use it, it says: “Page translation is built into Chrome. LEARN MORE.” Are you planning to remove the extension completely? Whyyyyy!!!!!!! 🤬 I really don’t want to open the Google Translate website every time I need to translate a few words quickly. The extension popup was extremely convenient and much faster for on-the-go translations. Please bring back the popup translation feature or fix the extension. A lot of users rely on it daily!

- Auto-detect language for popup translation is unreliable. No option to manually lock the target-language. I keep getting Luxembourgish for German because they share similar words. Please give us the option to manually select our target-language.
