Silent Mode
Prefer to browse the web in complete silence? Give Silent Mode a try. Silent Mode prevents any audio from playing in your browser. Pairing this feature with Smart Mute's Whitelist feature can give you even more control of what you hear while browsing.
Whitelist
Enjoy listening to your favorite podcast or music playlist in the background while you browse the web? Ensure your listening experience never gets interrupted again by adding it to Smart Mute's Whitelist.
Blacklist
Hate when websites have auto-playing videos and advertisements? Add those annoying sites to Smart Mute's Blacklist and hear the sweet sounds of silence.
Additional Permissions Required
Smart Mute's Whitelist and Blacklist feature requires access to website URLs. This information is used — in real-time — to compare the websites a user visits and those that are listed.

- (2022-09-07) Brian Duffey: Where did silent site sound blocker go? Long time user of that plugin and was much much better than this one which does not seem to work well. Constantly mutes current tab even after I unmute it or even whitelist it. Makes it near impossible to watch youtube videos.

- (2022-04-18) Andrew Horvath: This extension worked perfectly until a few months ago. I'm not sure if the issues I'm experiencing are due to an update made to Chrome, or a change made to this plugin. Basically this plugin will oftentimes require me to click from one tab to another to un-mute the tab I'm watching. This mainly happens when opening a new tab. Also the plugin will occasionally randomly mute the tab I'm watching which requires me to click to another tab and back to unmute.

- (2021-10-19) JABE: It isn't working correctly as of lately. I've tried removing it from chrome, restarting my device and disabling/re-enabling it again. Normally it would mute all other tabs when I was on a specific one. But now its muting all tabs by default and I have to keep manually going up and unmuting the tab. Even if the tab is playing media with sound it doesn't unmute the tab I'm on unless I do it myself.

- (2021-02-09) ekarron: Great idea but the execution is okay. Would be better if it paused the video instead of muting the tab and then replayed the old video when done with the current one. I understand it may be made this way due to limitations but still it's not that convenient.
