This extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. Click the translate icon whenever you want to translate the page you're visiting.
The extension also automatically detects if the language of a page you're on is different from the language you're using for your Google Chrome interface. If it is, a banner appears at the top of the page. Click the Translate button in the banner to have all the text on the page appear in the new language.

NOTE: Please do NOT try this extension to translate this page or other pages on https://chrome.google.com/extensions. It does not work because Chrome does not allow extension gallery pages to be scripted.
UPDATE(v1.2): Now you can change the extension options to enable automatic translation or prevent the banner automatically popped up for specified languages and web sites.

- Would be nice if Google Translate option on the context menu — right click on highlighted text — would give a pop-up [or small floating window] where the highlighted text is already ready to be translated; and then all that's left is to select another language [apart from default translation] to get an on-the-fly translation within the floating window.

- Translation quality has been abysmal since the most recent update. There are so many instances of asterisks being added to names, punctuation marks being omitted from the original text, AND random punctuation inserted that were never present in the original text (e.g. em dashes, asterisks). Google translate is behaving like first generation Chatgpt. Please revert!

- working smooth and useful. But it need additonal feature to be able to change target language without going to options and changing the the default primary language. Since chrome is also google product you should consider to include this extension into default features of google-chrome rather than additional extension need to be installed

- It's very convenient to translate individual words on a page. But it would be great to add these words to favorites for further study. I'd like to see a favorites icon in the translation pop-up.

- **For people having trouble with the page not translating, simply reload the page and the translation will kick in** I've noticed that if I right click to open a tab the translation won't work but reloading fixes the problem. I use Google translate all day, every day and it works incredibly well. I've tried other translation extensions such as DeepL and they just aren't as easy to use (though sometimes the translations are more accurate).

- website is in japanese, sometimes it translates, sometimes not. extension unhelpfully says "translate is built into chrome" well its auto detect obviously doesnt work all the time... thats why i got the extension? what were you guys thinking? add a button to make it translate or an extension that lets you copy paste the text or translate from an image. why make this and inclued a "keep running but don't do anything" function?

- Dear Google Translate Team, I am a frequent user of the Google Translate Chrome extension. It works wonderfully for quick translations, but I kindly request the addition of a feature to select the preferred pronunciation accent (e.g., American English vs. British English) within the extension's settings. Currently, the accent seems to be set geographically or system-wide, and I specifically require the American English accent for my learning and usage needs. Adding this simple option would significantly enhance the utility of the Chrome extension for millions of users worldwide. Thank you for considering this suggestion.

- It keeps me on a foreigfn language that I do not use and will not mlet me change it to English... it is totally useless.

- The extension does not properly support right-to-left (RTL) rendering for Persian. Translated Persian text shows broken direction and alignment, which makes it hard to read. I tried fixing it with custom injected CSS, and it works inside the translation pop-up, but not in the main interface when clicking on the extension itself. Proper RTL handling is needed so Persian displays correctly everywhere.

- Cant even detect the right language. i highlight Chinese but it keeps detecting as Vietnamese, so I have to manually change to chinese everytime. Very Convienient.
