When you install StayFocusd, it will ask you to grant a number of permissions, including “Read and change all your data on the websites you visit.” This permission is required in order for StayFocusd to run on any site which you may visit—without this permission, StayFocusd would not be able to block websites. While this permission technically grants StayFocusd the ability to read and change data, we will never collect personal data from the web page content that you are browsing.

- (2024-10-02) Christopher Allen: Until recently I would have described this extension as useful but is too easy to bypass to be truly effective, and the new owner's plans to collect our web-usage data as concerning to say the least—but today I ran into a show-stopping issue that resulted in the extension blocking all non-allowlisted URLs, including the new tab page, chrome://settings/ and chrome://extensions/. I'm aware of the nuclear option but would prefer to have to opt-in to being nuked, rather than finding my browser randomly rendered unusable.
- (2024-09-19) Black Raven: Unfortunately, this app is totally broken now, it used to be the best for blocking distracting websites and I used it for years.

- (2024-08-04) Owen Davis: (Update August 2024). New update makes Google Chrome run incredibly slowly. Something is bugging out. StayFocusd now makes opening a new tab take several seconds and switching between tabs can be laggy. I'm 100% certain that it's StayFocusd which is to blame. Too bad!

- (2024-06-10) Vimal Bellamkonda: Edit 6/10/24: Unfortunately, whenever I try to visit the app extension page, I'm hit with a pop-up add for their Desktop app. The pop-up won't close, even after hitting "Maybe Later" or "Try it out." This app is completely unusable now.
