Brudd på opphavsrett er en hverdagslig situasjon for moddere. De fleste av de noe populære modsene i dag har på et tidspunkt blitt ulovlig kopiert og omdistribuert til en tredjepartsside, uten noen anerkjennelse eller tillatelse fra utviklerne deres. Mange av disse nettstedene er vert i Vietnam eller Russland, og er vanskelige å fjerne på grunn av ulik opphavsrettslovgivning. Mange av disse nettstedene tjener ulovlig på nedlastingslenkene sine for å tjene penger på moddernes harde arbeid, og flere går til og med så langt som å kreve eierskap til det ulovlige innholdet. Noen av dem er kjent for å være vert for malware og virus og hevder at disse er ekte, ufarlige mods. Dette må stoppe.
Når DMCA-er og fjerningsmeldinger mislykkes, må vi stole på at fellesskapet stopper folk fra å laste ned mods fra disse kildene. Imidlertid ser mange av nettstedene som engasjerer seg i den typen aktivitet som er skissert ovenfor veldig godt utformet og offisielle ut, noe som forvirrer mange spillere og får dem til å tro at disse sidene faktisk er de virkelige. Som et resultat blir mange maskiner infisert med virus og skadelig programvare, moddere mister inntekter og rykte og blir spammet med rapporter om feil som allerede er fikset i nyere versjoner av deres mods, siden bare de gamle versjonene er vert på de ulovlige sidene. Stop Mod Reposts er designet for å stoppe dette. Slik planlegger vi å gjøre det:
– La folk få vite at sidene er ulovlige. Det er ingen måte vi kan stoppe folk fra å bruke disse sidene når de ikke er klar over at handlingene til verten er i strid med loven og at verten er uvitende om moddernes rettigheter. Derfor vil denne utvidelsen vise et overlegg når du surfer på et nettsted som dette.
- Å la folk få vite at besøk på disse nettstedene setter datamaskinene deres i fare. Ingen ønsker å bli infisert med skadelig programvare, så vi vil advare dem om at nettstedene potensielt kan skade maskinene deres.
Nettstedene denne utvidelsen advarer om er de samme nettstedene som er oppført på https://github.com/StopModReposts/Illegal-Mod-Sites og oppdateres med noen få dager eller timer med nye verter.

Love to see the community doing something about this, I can't count the amount of times I've seen friends download from these sites and their machines are infected and then they never try modded again (and a younger more naïve version of me may have done the same in the past). Great extension to just let run and then forget about.

A useful feature, I dunno how easy it'd be to implement, but when you go to a certain repost site, there is an option to redirect to the legitimate mod download. I know this'd probably be a pain to implement each individual site though.
