著作権侵害は、Mod製作者にとって日常的な事です。 現在、ある程度人気のあるMODのほとんどは、第三者により違法なコピーをされ、製作者の承認や許可なしに再配布されています。 これらの再配布サイトの多くは、ベトナムやロシアでホストされており、著作権法が異なるため、削除することが難しい状況です。 これらの再配布サイトの多くは、大量に広告を設置するなどの方法でダウンロードリンクを違法に収益化し、Mod製作者の苦労をお金に換えています。さらには所有権を主張する再配布サイトも存在します。 中には、本物で無害なModと偽って、マルウェアやウイルスなどを配布している事もあります。 これらの製作者を嗜めたり、ユーザーを騙す行為を許してはいけません。
アメリカの「デジタル・ミレニアム著作権法」や日本などの「プロバイダー責任制限法(ノーティスアンドテイクダウン手続き)」等の法律の網目を潜った再配布サイトがある場合、そこからModをダウンロードするこ人がこれ以上生まれないように、注意喚起をするコミュニティが必要です。 しかし、再配布サイトの多くは、まっとうなサイトに見えるため、多くのユーザーが混乱しこれらのサイトが本物であると信じてModをダウンロードしてしまいます。 その結果、多くのコンピュータがマルウェアやウイルスに感染し、Mod製作者は本来受け取るはずの広告収入やユーザーからの信頼を失ってしまいます。更には、再配布サイトには古いバージョンのModが公開される為、製作者はすでに修正したバグについてクレームを受けなければなりません。 Stop Mod Repostsは、再配布サイトの利用を抑止するために作成されました。 具体的な方法は、以下の通りです。
- 違法な再配布サイトであることを周知すること。 ユーザーの多くは、どのサイトが再配布サイトであるか知るすべがありません。 そのため、この拡張機能では、再配布サイトにアクセスした時に警告を表示します。
- 再配布サイトにアクセスすると、コンピュータが危険にさらされることを周知すること。 コンピュータウィルスに自ら感染したい人はいないでしょう。その再配布サイトが自分のコンピュータに害を及ぼす可能性があることを警告します。
この拡張機能が警告する再配布サイトは、https://github.com/StopModReposts/Illegal-Mod-Sites に掲載されます。再配布サイトリストは数日から数時間ごとに更新されます。
