• (2025-08-10) Is fine for most content, if the content doesn't include images, or particular html code, like with google docs. It inverts images when they should not be touched for Dark Mode, making them look terrible. It has been an issue for years but never addressed. My list of excluded sites is so long it's almost useless to me as an addon and I pray for my sites to just have native dark mode functionality.
• (2025-08-09) Takes forever to load, and blinds the vast majority of the screen before it does so, replacing it with a solid color. Even if the plugin is turned off or disabled for that specific website, it still does this. Done more harm than good.

• (2025-07-28) SHOULD NOT DEFAULT TO DARK MODE. If dark mode makes things worse for a particular website (which will OFTEN be the case), that puts the onus on users to IMMEDIATELY figure out how to disable it when they've just installed the plugin. That's a failing design defect for me.

Aside from the "Repair extension" warning everyone's talking about, the biggest problem I'm experiencing is that on sites like YouTube that already have a dark theme, the page is completely black. Text, images, videos, nothing is visible. Everything is completely black. When I click on a video, the video doesn't even appear; it's still a black screen. On some sites, the bottom of the video doesn't even appear. These problems I mentioned aren't just happening on YouTube; they're happening on almost every site with a dark theme. I'll update my rating once you fix the issues. Please take note.

The extension can really slow down Chrome, particularly if you have more than 5 tabs open. My processor often maxes out, resulting in frustrating lag times of 3 to 15 seconds where I can't do anything. Initially, I thought my computer was the issue, but after deactivating the extension, everything worked smoothly again. It would be beneficial for the developers to address this resource-intensive problem, perhaps by providing a warning in the help section or offering a way to quickly deactivate the extension to reduce resource usage (would just simply turn dark mode off or must you disable it in the settings?). Another lightweight version with basic functionality for those who want to use dark mode without compromising performance would be a great addition. Overall, Dark Mode Reader is a wonderful tool for protecting your eyes, but be mindful of its impact on your system's performance. Awareness of this trade-off can help users better plan their browsing experience.
• (2025-07-03) Great extension. Except you need a quantum computer to run it on. It does the job alright. Except if you have many tabs open, your Chrome will gradually become slower and slower and slower to a point you may want to throw it out the window. Of a skyscraper. As someone who is really patient, this really gets my blood boiling. Also, I am not one that will make the effort of putting a negative review, yet, here I am. To the developer: As a developer myself, sure, I would actually pay for this, as I need it. However, it's just not fit for multiple tabs a and long time use. I am under Linux with the latest Chrome. I also have a really decent Dell XPS 15 with 64 GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. I've also tried it under Thorium. This also happens even if I have a list of allowed sites.
