However, a big issue I've noticed is a white flicker when it loads in websites into dark mode, as if the website is being loaded in, the white color gets loaded, then it gets quickly changed. This part really sucks, as it means I'm still getting flashbanged by my computer screen when I use it during the night. Other site specific Dark Mode extensions, such as Google Drive Dark Mode and Google Docs Dark Mode, don't have this issue.
- (2025-07-02) Aldet: Generally I really dislike having any service that uses a subscription or a free trial, because I know the free trial is not going to be as good and subscriptions are generally not worth it, specially for dark mode, since I think it should be a native free feature of any site already. The case was a little different with this extension. The free trial was pretty good but I don't plan on buying it. Would consider if it was a lifetime payment with a low price, like WinRAR. About the extension, I tested a lot of options and this was the best one by far. The dark mode is visually pleasing in almost every site, but I think it has too many sites that the extension doesn't work. The elements of the page also need polishing sometimes, as black elements with white text, for example, get turned to white elements with white text. I currently have to use the extension alongside the force dark pages feature from Opera GX, as I toggle some sites on and off on both dark mode options. Overall, good experience with the extension.

It works for almost all websites and still leaves them readable and usable while turning down the overwhelming brightness that some sites have. I will be a user for the foreseeable future and can't thank them enough for helping to save my eyes and make web browsing way more tolerable.

- (2025-05-29) Martin Shewen: The Dark Mode Night Eye Chrome extension works well and unobtrusively 95% of the time. I'd rate this 4.5 stars, if I could. It is available for other browsers too, which gives a consistent browsing experience for Safari, Firefox, etc. Once you've got used to viewing pages in dark mode, being presented with a bright, white page is very jarring - such as the Chrome Webstore where I am currently writing this review. The Dark Mode extension is very customisable if you want to fiddle with brightness, saturation, hue and all that jazz, and set up specific sites with specific settings. Now and then a website's text becomes impossible to read, I've had this with EasyJet.com, amongst others. The failure rate is pretty low, I am pleased to say. I think a useful feature would be a "try alternate dark mode" that implements dark mode for a problem page in a different way, and a "report problem page" option in the extension's menu. The ability to try out the features for an extended period is a boon, thanks to the developer for being generous, and offering a "lite" version for anyone who doesn't need that many browsers/installs. I have tried 3 or 4 other extensions, but Night Eye is the one that performed the best and offered the most comprehensive features. I think this will make a worthy purchase. Highly recommended.
